Sosok mirip seorang manusia yang duduk di atas batu terekam dalam foto yang diambil wahana penjelajah Spirit di permukaan planet Mars.

WASHINGTON, KAMIS – Apakah Planet Mars begitu sunyi tanpa kehidupan sama sekali? Perdebatan tentang hal tersebut semakin menghangat kembali saat foto sosok alien di permukaan Planet Mars beredar di internet.

Di dalam foto tersebut tampak sosok yang mirip dengan manusia tengah duduk di atas pinggiran batu. Foto yang dirilis NASA itu direkam wahana penjelajah Spirit tak lama setelah sukses mendarat di permukaan Mars pada 24 Januari 2004. Spirit adalah salah satu dari wahana kembar milik NASA yang masih aktif menyusuri permukaan Planet Mars.

Munculnya foto tersebut langsung mendapat banyak tanggapan dan memicu berbagai spekulasi melalui posting blog dan forum di Internet. Sebagian blogger menilai sosok tersebut hanya trik kamera, sedangkan lainnya tetap yakin sebagai bukti keberadaan alien.

Ada yang menilai bentuknya mirip kurcaci, ada pula yang yakin sebagai sosok Bunda Maria. Orang-orang yang percaya makhluk misterius berpendapat itu adalah sosok Bigfoot, makhluk gunung berjalan tegak dan berbulu lebat yang memicu banyak legenda di berbagai belahan dunia.

Namun, rata-rata banyak yang sepakat bahwa bentuknya mirip sekali dengan patung Little Mermaid, karakter Putri Duyung yang ada di ibukota Denmark, Kopenhagen. “Mungkin dibuat peradaban alien yang kemudian meninggalkan Mars dan tinggal di Denmark,” tulis salah satu komentar di Internet.

Namun, pendapat yang ditulis di Badastromy.com memberikan tanggapan dari persepektif lain. “Seorang manusia? Ia hanyalah batu berukuran kecil yang tingginya beberapa inci. Jaraknya hanya beberapa kaki dari wahana penjelajah tersebut.”

Terlepas dari perdebatan tersebut, NASA mungkin tidak menganggap ada sesuatu yang aneh dalam foto ini. Manusia tidak mungkin hidup di permukaan Mars dengan kondisi saat ini, kecuali organisme renik yang tahan terhadap lingkungan yang ekstrim. Meskipun demikian, bukti-bukti kehidupan di Mars masih terus dicari.(BBC/WAH)
